In 1984, Marion Sherman retired after serving Wapiti Regional Library for 34 years. To commemorate her service, the Wapiti Regional Library board created the annual Marion Sherman Bursary to help promote librarianship in the province of Saskatchewan.

Arriving in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan in 1942, Marion Sherman devoted her life to community service. Through her efforts, the first Regional Library on the Prairies was created in 1950. Originally the North Central Saskatchewan Regional Library, it later became Wapiti Regional Library.

The annual $750 Marion Sherman Bursary is open to students enrolled in the Saskatchewan Polytechnic Library and Information Technology Diploma program or online Library Clerk Applied Certificate program. Saskatchewan residents enrolled in similar online, accredited out-of-province Library and Information Technology programs may also be eligible, at the discretion of Wapiti Regional Library. The intent of the bursary is to assist with tuition expenses.

Wapiti Regional Library administers the Marion Sherman Bursary. The deadline for completed applications is Friday, October 3, 2025.
