Aboriginal Storytelling Month

In Saskatchewan, every February is Aboriginal Storytelling Month. Wapiti Regional Library has been proud to take part since the inception of this annual celebration. This year, due to pandemic restrictions, the region's events will be held virtually, rather than in-person.

Three traditional stories told by Randy Morin are being featured on the Wapiti Regional Library YouTube channel throughout February. Randy is from Big River First Nation, and is an Assistant Professor of Indigenous Studies at the University of Saskatchewan.

For Indigenous people, storytelling is both a gift, and a very old custom, used to teach, entertain, and remember. Throughout the month of February, storytelling events are held by libraries and their partners in communities throughout Saskatchewan thanks to the Library Services for Saskatchewan Aboriginal Peoples' Committee, and their generous sponsors.
